Abstract
Alveolar soft-part sarcoma is a very rare malignant soft tissue tumor.
Christopherson et al. described its clinical entity first at 1952 and a few other authors rep-orted this disease sporadically.
This tumor commonly develops in young female and has a predilection for the right side of the body. Especially, it arise from the lateral aspect of the right thigh.
Morphologically, it has been considered as a granular cell myoblastoma or a tumor of par-aganglionic origin, but the histogenesis is uncertain now,
Histologically, this tumor contains numerous vascularity in most cases.
Preoperatively, it is usually misdiagnosed as a hemangioma or an arteriovenous malforma-tion.
The diagnosis is confirmed with microscopic examination because this tumor has the char-acteristic findings.
We experienced a case of alveolar soft-part sarcoma at Kang Nam St. Mary¢¥s Hospital, Catholic Medical College.
The patient was a 30-year-old housewife who had non-tender lump at the lateral aspect of the right thigh for 3 years.
It grows markedly in a recent period.
She was diagnosed as an arteriovenous malformation with an arteriography of the right, common femoral artery preoperatively.
Postoperatively, it was confirmed as an alveolar soft-part sarcoma by the light and electron microscopic examination.
